August 1992 (First letter from Dave Antcliffe)

Well it's 4 months since we were all together, and I'm really glad we met up again after so many years. I don't think many Universities could pull together a full team of 20 bowlers, 20 years on.

Maybe the most amazing image of the weekend was seeing so many 40 year olds dressed up in sweat-marked but clean and ironed bowling shirts acting like a bunch of kids, I hope we can repeat the exercise in a few years time. Just to show we are famous, the cutting is from the Sheffield Star on the 30th April. Didn't we do well !

I feel I should apologise to all the wives, husbands and children who came for the weekend. We were very selfish, especially at prize giving time (ie. we ignored them for prizes), but I hope they had a good time even so. I suppose I should also apologise to the 'foreigners', who having come first and second, found themselves disqualified from winning anything, but that's life.

I have made up for my counting error and sent a wooden spoon to Janet Davis who was the lowest lady score (194 - over 2 games), Gwen can keep hers as it was pretty low too (205). A big well done to Angie Poole(377) who showed most of us how it should be done.

As regards absent friends, you all have a big 'hello' from Sue Ansell, Gill Bussel, Marge Donnegan, Bob Keats, Adi Lobb and Lol Meehan. Also Adrian Blacker, Alan Dale, Andy Kormornick and Andy Skinner who couldn't make it on the day. Vince Richardson who was stuck in the german air-traffic strike, and my cock up which meant Jim Wise didn't receive the last letter. So let's hope they all make it next time.

Finally thanks to Ozz, Bobby and John Whitfield for the help in organising the event, and hope to see some of you down my way, I'm only 5 miles from Cannes, in the sun, on the beach.

Meantime, regards and best wishes, . .
