Established Forum and Core Group structures which resulted in significant lay involvement in the running of the Parish. His spiritual leadership was also valued by people of other denominations in both Deepcar and Penistone. He embraced ecumenism and several pilgrimages he led included Anglicans, Methodists and others as well as local Catholics. His initiatives to celebrate the 150th anniversary [2009] of St Ann's included research resulting in the publication of much historical content in this website. He died in his native Co Mayo in October 2010 where he is buried [Louisburgh]. Fr Harney is fondly remembered by all of us. He was a man who was universally liked. The most common statement made about him was 'what a lovely man'.

Served the parish for nearly 40 years. His achievements include the building of St Mary's church in Penistone and St Ann's school in Stocksbridge, both of which were much needed and long overdue. He celebrated 50 years of priesthood in 1994, celebrating the occasion with a parish Mission Year. He died in Deepcar in May 2002.

Came to Deepcar to take charge of his first parish, from St Clare's, Bradford. It was during his time here that the parish celebrated its Centenary in 1959. To commemorate the occasion, Fr Smith, with meagre financial resources, undertook the redecoration of the Church and the Presbytery. The building was pointed and the floor replaced. The grounds were landscaped and the shrubs and trees were planted. He died at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Leeds in 1963

Was a native of Sheffield and had worked on the railway before he was ordained. He retired in ill health in 1957 and lived in Haywood Lane until he went to St Gabriel's Home, Horsforth, where he died in 1973.

Came from St Brigid's, Huddersfield in 1952 and lived only a few months. He is the only parish priest buried in Stocksbridge Cemetery.

Came out of retirement in 1941 to take over the Parish. Killed on the drive of St Ann's in 1943. His car overturned as he was pushing it out of the garage and pinned him underneath. He is buried at Handsworth.

Came to Deepcar where he was to spend 14 years. During his time here the economic situation was depressed and people experienced poverty and, in some cases, real hunger. It was during those years that the hall was built and people of the parish developed a healthy social life thereby strengthening the community. Fr Moynihan went to St Joseph's Handsworth where he died in 1968.

In 1919 the original building was proving too small and it was decided to extend the church in commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee of the parish. It was during this time that the site on Talbot Road, Penistone was bought with a view to establishing a church and school there. He died in Selby in 1943.

In 1900, he built the Presbytery. Prior to that date the resident priest lived in the house attached to the church, which is now the Sacristy. After the priest moved into the Presbytery, the house was occupied by a family for a number of years. Fr. Carr died in 1906 at St Edmunds,Clifford.

The first non-Vincentian to perform a Baptism in Deepcar was Fr Patrick Keating on the 10th February 1875. Parishioners as we know them did not exist at that time. Each area was known as a Mission and the priest in charge was known as an Apostolic Missioner (M.A.P.)
