The Laser is immensely popular due to it's plastic construction and car-top-ability. It is reasonably light, and fast, but with a full rig it is not a beginner's boat. Three different sizes of sail/mast combinations are available (Laser, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7) and the boat has a different handicap rating dependent on the type of rig used .

Over 190,000 boats have been built - so there are always plenty for sale. Second-hand prices range from £500 to £4000 depending on age and condition. New price approx. £4500. The Laser is one of the most regularly raced boats in the UK, if not the world, and is now an Olympic class.
